The Nintendo Switch is powered by custom NVIDIA Tegra technology

Nintendo’s newly announced console Switch is to use NVIDIA architecture under the hood, Nintendo and NVIDIA have confirmed.

NVIDIA assert on their website that the most important thing to know about the Switch is that “it’s really fun to play,” but they’re also quick to note their involvement – they’re providing the custom Tegra processor that will power the machine.

“The high-efficiency scalable processor includes a NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards,” the company writes on their blog.

NVIDIA also note that the machine is supported by “fully custom software” which includes a newly revamped physics engine and advanced tools for building games. NVIDIA has created two new gaming APIs to make it all happen.

The Switch is to become available in March 2017, and NVIDIA is just one of a slew of partners we now know about, but they’re a pretty important one.

We can’t wait to get our hands on the machine and report how the technology under the hood holds up. Soon, hopefully.
