Facebook Messenger's "Instant Video" Feature

Earlier today, Facebook Messenger unveiled its “Instant Video” feature that eerily resembles the one found onSnapchat — except of course, the social networking giant amps it up to a tenfold. The feature will allow users to view and share videos as they converse with friends; it’s not intended to be a full blown video call rather a way to send short spurts of personal clips. Facebook professed, “Sometimes you just want to ask a friend’s opinion on a pair of shoes you want to buy, weigh in on what ice cream flavor they should bring home, or see their reaction to your witty message, when you’re in a place where you can’t talk live (like a meeting – don’t tell anyone!) Instant Video allows you to share regular parts of everyday life with the people you care about most.”

The video will live as a tiny and movable interface in the messenger box — which is similar to the Multi Window feature inherent on Samsung smartphones except it’s all inclusive. The whole shebang was conceived so that video calls can be shared “as easy as sending a sticker or emoji.” Expect the video to roll out sometime in a few days or weeks.
